NEW COURSE RECORD of 18:15 (49.315km/h) by AARON FILLION!
Congratulations to Aaron Fillion for taking another 2 seconds off of the course record in bringing it down to 18:15 (49.315km/h), on a night which many found more difficult than average. Just one second faster per kilometer and Aaron will be at 18:00 or 50km/hr. Mind you it isn't easy to go 1 second per kilometer faster at his speed! Using my time trial calculator to calculate these speeds (link at the bottom of the result pages), we can determine that a slower rider, say a 30:00 miniute (30km/h) time trialist would only have to increase his or her speed by .252km/h to take 15 seconds off, whereas Aaron at 18:15 would have to increase his speed by .685km/h. Even worse, since the power needed to ride at a particular speed increases like the cube of the speed, it is much, much harder for someone of Aaron's speed to increase their speed, but if we ever get a really good night... Note that Aaron caught both his second place half-minute man Warren MacDonald (18:54) and his third place minute man, Douglas van den Ham (19:27). The top three women, Veronique Fortin (20:53), Tricia Spooner (22:18) and Michelle Gauthier (22:30) all met or exceeded the 40km/h mark. Veronique and Michelle both set database PBs, the only two women to do so apart from new rider Nathalie Boudreau. It really wasn't an easy night! Overall, only 10 of the 80 who had ridden a previous 2011 OTT 15km time trial improved upon their season-series best, and of those 10, three had only ridden two OTT events this season, whereas for the others, the improvements for tonight were fairly subtle. Eight riders improved upon their 15km databse PB, and congratulations to all of these.
These results were posted on the OBC site circa 19:30 on 2011-Aug-12 and are available here for your added pleasure and analysis.
(Lest complaints about me just lazily sucking in the results surface, I wish to make it perfectly clear that I would gladly do the data entry, getting the results up within a few of hours of the event, as history shows that I did for the WTT series for the decade beginning in 1998, and for the OTT series from 1999-2002 and again in 2006. The OBC Board however, not only won't let me volunteer here, but strangely enough they actually expelled me from the OBC for donating this time trial web site to you !)
